Extra Coach Application

Extra Team Guidelines

AYSO EXTRA PROGRAM: The objectives of the program are to:

  • Allow AYSO registered players the opportunity to play more soccer beyond the opportunities offered by their regular teams

  • Instill the essential elements of sportsmanship among the players, coaches and parents

  • Promote the AYSO philosophy of positive coaching

  • Teach the techniques and laws of soccer

  • Provide an enjoyable and educational athletic activity for all participants

  • Provide a higher level of competition for the more skilled players of Ossining AYSO and the opportunity to compete in tournaments.

Participation on an Extra team is in addition to a player’s commitment to his or her regular AYSO team.  Players MUST CONTINUE TO PARTICIPATE ON AND GIVE PRIORITY TO THEIR REGULAR AYSO TEAMS to remain eligible for Extra play.

There are teams for boys and girls representing most age groups.  Players are invited by a coach to play – there are no try-outs and no cuts.  Teams typically practice one night during the week and there are games each weekend (usually Saturday afternoon to avoid conflicts with the regular AYSO program) and tournaments such as the Wiz of Oss which is hosted by our own region in both the fall and spring.  The Extra program is self-funding so there may be additional costs for such things as uniforms and tournament fees.

The AYSO Extra program is our attempt to provide more serious players additional opportunity to play in a more competitive AYSO environment while keeping them involved with a regular AYSO team.  This hopefully provides more novice players an opportunity to develop by playing alongside more serious players under the guidance of the AYSO principles of Positive Coaching,, Balanced Teams, Everyone Plays, and Good Sportsmanship.
