For Referees
We
need referees!!!
If you are over 14 years old
and can referee either Saturdays or Sundays, we would love
you to join us. Soccer is a very easy game to learn and you
don’t need to be an expert to referee games. We provide
training, ongoing support, the uniforms, all the referee
supplies including the real cool and powerful whistle.
The top
five reasons to become a referee:
5. Fresh Air
4. Exercise
3. Your kids
2. No seat in the house is closer to the action
1. What could be more fun than getting exercise, fresh air
and running around with Kids!!!
And, you only need to commit
to about 1.5 hours a week (per kid/game). Yup, that’s it,
just one and a half hours a week! You just come 20 minutes
before a game to check the field, run the game, and go home.
It’s that easy! And you become a hero to your kid too!!!
So, you can come and just sit
on the sidelines and watch the kids. Or… you can play with
them!

As of 1/1/2001, by Federal
Law (Volunteer Protection Act), referees who are not
certified (Safe Haven Course and Referee Course) are not
allowed to referee AYSO teams, and do not have AYSO
liability coverage.
The AYSO Referee Pledge
In my words and action, I pledge to:
-
Remember that the game is
for the players and recognize that player safety and
fair play come first.
-
Learn the laws of the
Game and understand the “spirit” of the Laws and to help
fellow referees do the same.
-
Encourage and enforce the
AYSO philosophies of “Everyone Plays”,“Positive
Coaching”, and “Good Sportsmanship”.
-
Respect other referee
decisions and not to publicly criticize another
official.
-
Present a positive
authority figure model when officiating.
-
Remain calm when
confronted with emotional reactions from players,
coaches and spectators.
-
Keep in mind that the
role of the coach and the referee are inherently
different.
-
Honor game assignments
and to arrive sufficiently early to conduct my pregame
duties.
-
Support sporting behavior
by players, coaches and parents of both teams.
-
Always be fair and
impartial, avoiding conflicts of interest and personal
bias.
